Ullmark package TBD

The Boston Bruins used Linus Ullmark’s standing as hockey’s greatest redundancy to get back into the first round of the NHL Draft, which will be held on Friday at The Sphere in Las Vegas.

The unfortunate thing on GM Don Sweeney’s end of this is the Bruins were not able to get a deal like the Calgary Flames got from New Jersey in sending Jacob Markstrom to New Jersey for a top-10 pick (2025). The Bruins are back in the first round of the draft but at 25th overall.

That’s the prize.

Footnotes: The Bruins got Ottawa to retain $1 million of new backup Joonas Korpisalo’s $4M AAV for each of the next four seasons, and they get rangy, depth center Mark Kastelic (102 PIM’s in 2022-23, 63 this past season).

So there it is, Ullmark to the Senators for the 25th overall pick in Friday night’s draft, plus backup goalie, 30yo Joonas Korpisalo, and 25yo forward Mark Kastelic.

Fetch a NHL player at 25, and this deal gets a whole lot better for the Bruins.
